Tweens aren't often heralded for their good judgment and excellent taste (Heelys--hello), but if any young starlet can redeem them, it's Hannah Montana. On this, the second soundtrack from the Disney Channel series, Miley Cyrus takes her cues from her TV alter ego, who has an alter ego of her own: Disc 1 features Miley as Hannah, hair-tossing pop princess by weekend, likable schoolgirl by weekday (see "Old Blue Jeans" and "True Friends" to get a sense of each episode's un-cloying sweetness). But disc 2 is the start of something new, as her friends over on the High School Musical set might say: Miley sings strictly as her spunky, truth-telling self. This yields a number of pepped-up pop tracks bound to vibrate through the walls of pink bedrooms everywhere--"See You Again" is a boy-centric song instantly relatable to anyone who's ever been in seventh grade and suffered a bout of bashfulness, "East Northumberland High" puts a punk spin on an I'm-just-not-into-you tale, and "Clear" bounces on a reggae beat while canceling any doubt about our heroine's ability to stand up for herself. Like Hannah before her, Miley makes the best of both worlds--this well-worth-it set, by turns rockin' and reflective, is a masterful example. more>>

Hannah Montana is an American Emmy Award-nominated children's television series which debuted on March 24, 2006 on Disney Channel. The series focuses on Miley Stewart (played by Miley Cyrus), who lives a double life as an average teenage girl at school during the day and a famous pop singer, Hannah Montana, at night, concealing her real identity from the public other than her close friends and family.
The show centers on 14-year-old Miley Stewart and takes place in Malibu, California. She's a teenage girl who has a big secret. Only her close family, best friends Lilly and Oliver, ex-boyfriend Jake Ryan, and bodyguard Roxy know that she is living a double life as "Teen Pop Sensation" Hannah Montana. She lives in a house by the beach with her father Robby (played by Miley's real life father Billy Ray Cyrus) and older brother Jackson (played by Jason Earles), who works down at Rico's Surf Shop by the beach. The Stewarts are from Nashville, Tennessee. Miley's mother died before the show began, leaving singer-songwriter Robby a widower and the sole caretaker of their children, giving up his previous career as a famous country singer. He is also the disguised father and manager of Hannah Montana. Miley's two best friends Lilly Truscott (played by Emily Osment) and Oliver Oken (played by Mitchel Musso) also live nearby and attend school with her. Each episode deals with life, personal conflicts, or problems that are easily solved with lessons learned by the show's end. more>>
Hannah Montana, Vol. 1 - Livin' the Rock Star Life
Hannah Montana, Vol. 1 - Livin' the Rock Star Life (2006)
Being the famous 14-year old rock star Hannah Montana isn't easy, nor is the life of an average Los Angeles middle school student who's trying to figure out her place in the social scene. Imagine, then, how difficult Disney Channel's Miley Stewart's life is considering she's living both lives simultaneously. One of the most down-to-earth pop stars you'll ever meet, Miley goes to exceptional lengths to keep her identity as Hannah Montana a secret from her best friend Lilly because she's afraid of being treated differently in "Lilly, Do You Want to Know a Secret." When Oliver's obsession with Hannah Montana gets to be too much for Miley to handle in "Miley Get Your Gum," she devises a gum-chewing scenario that just about guarantees an end to Oliver's crush on Hannah Montana. Far from the usual adoring fan, Miley's newest crush Josh actually says he doesn't like Hannah Montana in "I Can't Make You Love Hannah If You Don’t," so Miley sets out to change Josh's musical preferences. The never-before-seen episode "Money for Nothing, Guilt for Free" finds rich snobs Amber and Ashley in ugly competition with Miley, Lilly and Oliver over a school contest to raise money for the needy while Miley's brother Jackson is bent on beating his father at just about any kind of competition. Bonus features include the Hannah Montana music video "Best of Both Worlds," a backstage interview with Miley Cyrus and her father Billy Ray Cyrus about following your dreams, and Miley's audition tapes. Stardom can be a heavy burden for a teenager, but Miley Stewart (Miley Cyrus) has always risen above the temptation to flaunt her fame, and firmly resolved to keep her true identity as teen rock star Hannah Montana a secret from her classmates, in favor of being perceived as a typical teenager. Miley's resolve begins to falter in this foursome of episodes when famous television star Jake Ryan (Cody Linley) suddenly shows up as a new student in Miley's class. Initially assuming that Jake is just another snooty superstar, Miley's distaste quickly turns to confusion and jealousy over all the attention her fellow students, including her smitten best friend Lilly (Emily Osment), are lavishing on him. Miley's inner turmoil results in an impulsive confession of her true identity to Jake and a local reporter. Miley's father Robbie Stewart (played by Miley's real-life father and famous country musician Billy Ray Cyrus) helps convince the local reporter that Miley is just another drama-loving teenager with grandiose dreams and typically wacky schemes. A visit from Aunt Dolly (played by country music icon Dolly Parton) helps Miley realize the importance of taking chances and reaching for her dreams. In the end, everyone learns an important lesson about being open-minded and staying true to one's goals and beliefs. Bonus features include a "Nobody's Perfect" stage performance video and a brief "The Real Miley Cyrus" featurette in which Miley talks about her childhood, home life, and relationship with her co-stars. Destiny Hope "Miley" Cyrus (born November 23, 1992) is an American actress, singer and songwriter. She is best known for starring as Miley Stewart/Hannah Montana on the Disney Channel Original Series, Hannah Montana.
Born in Franklin, Tennessee, a suburb of Nashville, Miley Cyrus attended Heritage Middle School but she now has a private tutor. She grew up on her parents' farm in the backwoods of Nashville. Cyrus is the daughter of country singer Billy Ray Cyrus and Leticia "Tish" Cyrus, and the granddaughter of the late Ron Cyrus and Ruth Ann Cyrus. She has two older half-brothers, Christopher Cody and Trace, who sings and plays guitar in Metro Station, an electronic rock band in California, an older half-sister, Brandi, a younger brother, Braison, and a younger sister, Noah Lindsey Cyrus, who is also an actress. She was named Destiny Hope because her parents thought that she would accomplish great things. Cyrus gained her nickname "Miley" because she kept smiling ("Smiley") as a youngster. In an interview with USA Today, Cyrus was quoted as saying her faith is "the main thing" and is why she works in Hollywood. When interviewed by Parade, she added that she attends church regularly with her family. She also has many pets, including horses, dogs, cats, fish and chickens. Cyrus is the goddaughter of country music star Dolly Parton.
On the Disney Channel series “Hannah Montana” (2006- ), Miley Cyrus played a perky, charming middle-school student who just happened to lead a double life as the pop queen Hannah Montana, disguising her true identity by means of a wig. While the premise was the definition of hokey TV fabrications, it was actually not too far removed from Cyrus’ own life. The decidedly normal young girl from Nashville, TN, also happened to be the daughter of ‘90s country chart-topper-turned-actor Billy Ray Cyrus, and began launching her own singing career in addition to fronting “Hannah Montana.”
Born Nov. 23, 1992, Cyrus was the middle child of six, earning the name “Miley” due to her sunny outlook and beaming grin while still a baby. Dad Billy Ray dubbed her “Smiley,” which was later shortened to “Miley” (Cyrus’ birth name was Destiny Hope). Cyrus got an early taste of performing, thanks to her dad’s juggernaut music career, culminating in his best-selling (but since that time, much maligned) single, “My Achy-breaky heart.” As a toddler, she frequently appeared onstage at his concerts to perform a song or two with him.
When the elder Cyrus moved into acting, his daughter caught the bug and wrangled a few appearances on his TV series “Doc” (PAX, 2001-04). This led to a small role in Tim Burton’s fantasy feature “Big Fish,” (2003) for which she was billed as Destiny Cyrus.
Bolstered by these appearances, Cyrus began pursuing an acting career in earnest, and at age 11, caught the eye of Disney Channel producers (including Michael Poryes, co-creator of the network’s biggest then hit, “That’s So Raven”) when they began casting for “Hannah Montana.” Concerns over her age and height (Cyrus is 5’ 4”) were dismissed once they saw her way with both a line and a song (Cyrus had a surprisingly mature voice for her age), and by the time she turned 13, the multi-talented girl was starring in her own Disney Channel series. Making it a true family affair, Dad Billy Ray joined her on the show to play her father-manager and dole out countrified advice (and to lend the exceptionally manic series a moment or two of quiet).
“Hannah Montana” debuted on The Disney Channel on March 26, 2004 to record ratings, solidifying the show as the network’s newest hit. The inevitable tie-in products soon followed – a soundtrack CD, with five songs crooned by Cyrus, including the title theme, “Best of Both Worlds,” which cracked the Billboard Top 100 singles charts; “Hannah”-related DVDs; video games; and other ephemera were snapped up to the delight of the young fans. Cyrus also contributed a version of “Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah” to the fourth volume of the phenomenally popular Disney Mania CD series in April of 2006 (she could also be heard on her father’s 2006 release, “Wanna Be Your Joe”). In June of that year, she performed as Hannah Montana live concert as Hannah Montana at Disney World, as well as signed a four-album deal with Disney’s Hollywood Records.
